MAKZ

MAKZ-IRIS/GSN seismic station.

Makanchi seismic station was opened in 1970 specially for nuclear monitoring. It is located in Eastern Kazakhstan 60 km away from Kazakhstan Chinese border.

In 1994 the station was transferred to the Institute of Geophysical Research NNC RK . The same year a 3-component DAS Reftek station was installed at the station under the JSP program. An additional IRIS/GSN 3-component station began operation in autumn of 1996. The IRIS/GSN station is equipped with STS-1, STS-2 seismometers and FBA-23 accelerometer, installed in a tunnel 10 m below the Earth surface. The characteristics of the equipment are listed in the table 1. The Data from IRIS/GSN station are sent to the USGS Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory (USA).
