About NNC RK Observation System.
Karatau Seismic Array

In the year 2001 the construction of the new Karatau seismic array was finished
and its operation began. The first seismic data were received from the array
in December 2001. Karatau seismic array is located 90 km west from Taraz town
and 8 - 10 km from Karatau town.
Configuration of this array is similar to the one of Makanchi.
Karatau seismic array consists of 10 observation points, located in two concentric
circles with one central site. (see the
figure) Nine one-component GS-21 seismometers are installed at 9 sites.
Besides, there is a broadband three-component station with KS54000 sesimometer
(KK31). Coordinates and parameters of the boreholes, where the seismometers
are installed, are listed in the table below. At present the station is operating
in testing mode.
