Seismic Information

The Center for Acquisition and Processing of the Special Seismic Information (hereinafter the Data Center) is a branch of the Institute of Geophysical Researches of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was founded in 1999. The Data Center is located in Almaty.

Our Center is Kazakhstan National Data Center in the structure of the International Monitoring System (IMS) of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). The main goal of creation of such system is monitoring for nuclear explosions and earthquakes. For this purpose there exists a system of modern high-technology seismic, infrasound, radionuclide and hydroacoustic stations for the Treaty verification. All data arrive in real time into the International Data Center in Vienna (Austria) and are processed automatically.

National system of nuclear monitoring that includes distinct stations and arrays implementing seismic and infrasound observations had been created on the territory of Kazakhstan during the last decade (General information). They are located in different regions of Kazakhstan territory including north and west regions where systematic seismological observations were not conducted before. Data of all stations arrive in the Data Center in Almaty 24 hours a day via radiotelemetry and satellite channels for analysis and processing.

The main tasks of the Data Center are:

- acquisition and transfer of seismic and infrasound data;

- data processing in different operation modes;

- data storage and data exchange; ,

- scientific researches.

 

On our web-site you can find the results of prompt automatic and interactive seismic data processing (seismologic bulletins) of Central Asia events, urgent information about sensible earthquakes on the territory of Kazakhstan (sensible earthquakes), as well as additional information about stations network, status of their operation, scientific articles of the Data Center staff on different related fields.
